Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been charged with serious crimes including attempt to murder and criminal intimidation after his wife Hasin Jahan filed a police complaint.

Further, his brother Hasib has been charged with rape.

Some of these crimes are non-bailable and punishable by imprisonment for over 10 years.

This has turned into an ugly public affair since Jahan made the allegations earlier this week.

Shami married Jahan a couple of years after meeting her

Shami had met Jahan, formerly a model, at an IPL event sometime in 2011-12. Two years later, in June 2014, they got married.

He was 24 then.

During the wedding, Shami’s father Tauseef Ahmed had told NDTV, “Now Jahan will be a housewife and support Shami in his playing career. That’s what we want as parents.”

Jahan accuses Shami of adultery, torture, domestic violence

Shami’s alleged affairs hit the news when Jahan posted screenshots of his messages with women as well as his photos with his purported girlfriends on Facebook.

She accused him of torturing her and trying to kill her.

He had also started beating her, she claimed.

His family, including his mother and brother, apparently abused her and “even wanted to kill me.”

Shami’s response to his wife’s allegations

Shami hit back by saying Jahan had lost her mental balance and accused her of trying to sabotage his career.

“All these reports about my personal life are lies. This is a major conspiracy to defame me and affect my game,” he tweeted.

He added Jahan needed to prove all allegations she had made. He will take appropriate legal action, he said.

Parents not supporting me in my fight: Jahan

Elaborating on her claims, Jahan has now said his girlfriends are from India as well as “Pakistan and countries in Europe.”

He would meet them in hotels during tours, she said.

She has also accused his brother of raping her when she visited her in-laws’ place in UP last year.

Her family had refused to support her in this fight, she said.
